We live in a world that is obsessed with celebrities, politicians, and royals, especially when it comes to U.K. royalty and the British paparazzi. It can be hard to remember these people are human, and they deserve at least a little bit of privacy.
From the moment Meghan Markle became associated with Prince Harry, she has not had a single moments rest from the press. And most of what they have been saying is just plain rude if not complete fabrication. Don’t get us started on all the online trolling she has to put up with all the time.
The truth is that Meghan, like all other women, likely wants a little privacy. When it comes to family, babies, and birth, the public shouldn’t expect full transparency. Here’s why the Duchess of Sussex doesn’t owe the media anything.
The media’s war with Meghan Markle

From the moment the media got wind that Harry was dating an American actress, the media has made every attempt to drag her name and their relationship in the mud. Days leading up to the royal wedding only fueled rumors and drama. Most people could see that Harry was clearly in love with Meghan, but the media made every attempt to make her look like a social climber.
Steadfast as always, Harry stood by Meghan. When the official announcements went public that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expecting their first baby, the press ramped up their coverage. This is normal for royal pregnancies; what’s not normal is the bad-mouthing that followed.
How did Meghan Markle’s media drama start?
It all started when the media started getting reports that Meghan and Harry wanted to keep the birth and baby private. They wanted to have a little alone time as a family before prancing their newborn in front of cameras and the world.
It sounds like a reasonable request considering they are new parents. What woman wants to stand in front of paparazzi hours after giving birth? Just because Princess Diana and Kate Middleton did it, doesn’t mean that it is tradition or necessary.
Then word came out that not only was Meghan thinking about waiting for official photos but that she was also considering having the baby at home. The press went berserk. Who does this American think she is, marrying a member of the British Monarch, and asking for privacy?
On top of all the negative attention calling her a spoiled American, she also has to deal with rumors of royal drama and a rift between her and her sister-in-law, Kate.
Why Meghan Markle doesn’t owe the media anything
It’s really important to remember that even though Meghan is now a member of the royal family, and before that a celebrity, she is still a person. She is allowed — and entitled to — the right to want privacy.
This is supposed to be a beautiful time in her life: She created a human, so if she wants to take time after birth to enjoy her bundle of joy, she should. Meghan doesn’t owe the media anything. In fact, we can’t help but wonder if the media owes her something. Here’s why.
She has been very accommodating. She moved to a new country to be with her husband. She gave up her career in the process. Meghan has spent a lot of her time giving back to her new country and representing the crown. If you ask us, she has given back more than most, and still, she has to deal with media backlash. So, we say go on girl. Take the time you need to cuddle your baby in private. And, to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, congratulations on your new son!
